Frequently asked questions
How do I make a rebus from my own sentence?
Type your sentence in the text box and click "Generate". The rebus generator instantly turns your words into an emoji puzzle: for each word it picks a fitting emoji based on sound. Entering your own words works directly, free, and without an account; you can make unlimited rebuses for the classroom, parties or homework.
Does the rebus generator work online and is it free?
Yes. The rebus generator runs entirely online in your browser — no installation, no registration, no cost. You can make, download and share unlimited rebuses. The tool works on desktop, tablet and mobile.
Who is the rebus generator for — children or adults?
Both. Short sentences with simple words work for children from age 7 onwards; more complex sentences are suitable for upper primary, secondary, adults or for birthday parties and team events. The tool is also used in EFL/ESL teaching and in speech therapy to practise vocabulary in a playful way.
Can I adjust the difficulty or look of the rebus?
Yes. You control the difficulty by choosing whether to show the words, the full solution or just letter dots as a hint. If an emoji doesn't match what you meant, click on the tile to cycle through alternative emojis until you find one that fits.
Can I print or download my rebus as a PNG or PDF?
Yes. Under "Download" choose between PNG and PDF, and select whether you want the rebus on its own, with the words, or with the full solution. You can then print the rebus directly as a worksheet or save it for later use.
How do I share a rebus with students or parents?
Click the share option and you'll get a unique link. Choose whether the word list is visible to the people you share with — handy if you want to keep the challenge — and send the link via email, messaging app or your school's learning platform.
Is a shared rebus private or public?
Shared rebuses are only accessible via the unique link you receive. They are not publicly listed on the site or in search engines, but anyone with the link can view the rebus. Only share the link with people who are meant to see it.
What licence do the rebuses have?
Rebuses created with this tool are released under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) licence — free to use for any purpose, including commercial projects and without attribution.
